Let’s me take this opportunity to talk to our friends in GTA a bit about clay shooting sports. Since very often shotgun is used for most of the hunting in South Ontario.

The most popular places to shoot trap, skeet & sporting clay around GTA for Chinese are TITS (Toronto International Trap Shooting) and OSGC (Oshawa Skeet & Gun Club).
Of these two, TITS is more popular to Chinese shooting shotgun, since it is opened to the general public on Sundays, all year round. TITS only offers shotgun shooting, it has the only Olympic Trap bunker in Ontario.

As for OSGC, non members are allowed to shoot there 3 times as a guest, and then they will have to take out a membership. OSGC offers shotgun, rifle as well as handgun shooting, it is opened all year round as well.
The rifle/handgun range is outdoors. Handgun could only shoot at target up to 50 yards away while rifle could shoot at target up to 300 yards away.
This is one of the two 300 yards civilian rifle ranges around GTA. The other one is at Sharon Gun Club.
Below are the links of TITS and OSGC:

If you are interested in shooting trap and skeet, go to TITS on Sundays. Bring your own shotgun and a few boxes of target shells (#7.5, #8 or #9 shot, 2-3/4”, with 3 drams or less EQ black powder) Get Winchester AA #7.5 or #8 shot, if you are not sure what to bring.

There are lots of excellent Chinese shotgun shooters at TITS on weekends and any one of them would be able to show you the rules and the basics in how to shoot clay.

Thanks so much Lorus238,

I went to TITS last Sunday and "watch" them shooting the clay.  My short Gun barrel  is too short (26"+ needed) to allow shooting there.   I may have to buy another one.  I should buy a all around gun, one for everything.  :(

Sounds like there are some rules on how to shoot there. Do you mind share some with us?

What type of shotgun do most people used? over and under?
Will they look at me differently if I use a semi auto?

Xhunter,

Semi auto "Benelli" or "Browning Gold" are perfect OK for this sport.  They suggest that to use semi if you are a beginner. However, I do see people use pump action like Reminton 870 too.

I found a bunch of old guys use two barrels break action shotgun. The basic rule is the longer of barrel (30+), the better for trap shooting.

Xhunter, Rugertown,

The Olympic Trap Bunker was closed on Sunday, November 1?

If you are serious about shooting clay, invest in a quality O/U. e.g. Beretta 686 Sporting or even something better.

Why O/U? There are few advantages of using an O/U, but I do not have the time here to explain to you, ask those people who shoot trap, skeet or sporting clay regularly.

If you are just going to shoot a few rounds of trap each year, to hone your skills before hunting season opens, then you could use whatever you want.

A pump is only good for shooting American or DTL (Down The Line) Trap and nothing else.

For Skeet, Olympic Trap, Olympic Skeet and Sporting Clay, you need at least a semi-auto.

I will not be checking my post on this site. Sorry if I do not reply your question from this point on.

Take care and ask the experience people at TITS for answers. Do not ask any beginners, they would give you the wrong answers.

Please do not ask the blind for directions.

Too bad! this year all  sundays I have to go to school. Otherwise we should meet up and go shooting.

Do people do shooting at Christmas time?
