Anik Choinière and Stu Coleman: “A few degrees south” - Two Bike Trips from Vancouver
Tue Nov 23, 7:30 pm (doors 6:30 pm)

“Looping Around the Olympic Peninsula”
Six ferries, a 40km rest day and camping spot behind an RV.  There is plenty to enjoy while riding around the Olympics, and even more so if you can find extra time.  Peaceful beaches to wander at the end of a days ride, to soak your feet in the Pacific and watch the sun dip beyond the horizon.  Rainforests to hike through and cold lakes for a swim. Although the roads, at times are narrow and opportunities to stock up are limited, a little planning or creative cooking solutions will go a long way, and if your timing is good you may be in Port Townsend during their annual street festival.
“An Edge of the Pacific, Cycling the Oregon Coast”
Trains, buses, bikes.  It is great where you can go in just two weeks from Vancouver with a few modes of transport.  Much of the Oregon coastal route follows the ocean, roads are wide, some shoulders are even wider and the hiker/biker sites are great.  There is more traffic, more cyclists, more hills and you could be fogged in for days at a time, but regardless, head south and you will have a tail wind nearly every day!

Stu Coleman
Stu once aspired to make a living as a sports photojournalist, and for a number of years he did. Whether it was for work in the canyons of Switzerland, an expedition to the volcanoes of Kamchatka or a weekend hiking trip in the alpine,  Stu always ended up just shooting more for himself.  Now, Stu is a full-time carpenter and his camera is his journal.
It all started on a small tricycle tearing down the side of the house in rural Southern Australia, then it was a slightly bigger BMX that was ridden too often on the beach.  Since then there have been many bikes, road bikes, mountain bikes, stolen bikes and now a touring bike with squeaky brakes.
Although Stu’s first bike tour was a 2-day, 50km epic in the Australian high country, a few things have changed. On his most recent trip Stu headed south along the Pacific coastline with his partner Anik. Anik has cycled more of Stu’s homeland than he has, and Stu has cycled less of Anik’s homeland than she has, but between them they made it to California!

Films:
First Round First Minute
Since Chris Sharma moved to the sport climbing mecca of Catalunya, Spain, he's opened dozens of routes that are redefining high-end climbing. First Round First Minute gives an update on Sharma's latest 5.15 first ascents, and tells the story of his epic battle with his latest ongoing project.
The Hardest Moves
Daniel Woods and Paul Robinson compete to climb the hardest boulders ever scaled. An inside look at what it takes to push the difficulty envelope of this intense sport.
Origins: Thu Hulk
Peter Croft and Lisa Rands attempt a wild free ascent on the Incredible Hulk Wall in the Sierras -- arguably America's best (and least filmed) alpine rock wall. Croft, the most legendary of California's crack masters mentors the renowned boulderer Rands as she explores into alpine traditional climbing terrain.
Down and Out, and Under
A once-in-a-lifetime adventure expedition for first ascents in Australia and on the wild sea cliffs of outer Tasmania.
Fly Or Die
Dean Potter continues his extreme vertical exploration, opening new freeBASE climbs, along with highline and wingsuit jumps in some of the most mind-blowing vertical footage ever captured.
The Swiss Machine
Ueli Steck may be the greatest speed alpinist the world has ever seen. In this film he tells the stories of his record-breaking ascents in the Alps, accompanied by stunning aerial footage of him racing up 8,000 foot alpine faces. Ueli joins Alex Honnold in Yosemite to attempt speed records there. His ultimate goal: take his one-man alpine speed game to the largest, highest walls in the world.

Colin Angus: Around the World Adventures
Thu Nov 25, 7:30 pm (doors 6:30 pm)
Colin Angus completed the first human-powered circumnavigation of the world when in 2006 he cycled into Vancouver after 43,000 km of travel.  During the course of two years he rowed across the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, trekked and cycled through 16 countries, endured winter in Siberia and searing heat in the tropics.
Colin has made a career exploring remote parts of the world and sharing his adventures through bestselling books, films and presentations.  He has navigated the Amazon and Yenisey Rivers from source to sea, sailed the South Pacific Ocean, and rowed thousands of km in waterways around the world.  He has co-produced four documentaries which collectively won ten awards at international festivals including the Dijon and Telluride Festivals of Adventure Films.  His work is published in numerous publications including the Globe and Mail, Reader’s Digest and Cruising World. Outside Magazine listed Colin as one of the top 25 “bold visionaries with world changing dreams” for his work in promoting lifestyle changes to help the environment.  Colin and his wife Julie continue their efforts in promoting zero-emissions transportation as a healthy way to maintain a healthy world.
Colin will offer an overview of his past adventures, focused on his trips to the Amazon, his circumnavigation of the Earth, the rowed trip from Scotland to Syria, as well as proposed plans for the upcoming adventures. In the second half of the program, Colin’s film “Yenisey, River of Extremes” will be screened. For more about Colin and his adventures, go to www.angusadventures.com.
Yenisey, River of Extremes (film)
The first ever descent, from source to sea, of the 5540 kilometer Yenisey River, set against a backdrop of fairytale cultures and forbidding wilderness. The Yenisey River is born in the heart of Mongolia and flows north, through Siberia, and on the Arctic Ocean. It is the fifth longest river on the planet , and at the arrival of the new millennium no one had ever navigated its entirety.
Colin, along with his adventuring friends, Ben Kozel, Remy Quinter and Tim Cope, endeavored to be the first to run the Yenisey. The 5,540 km river is frozen for more than half the year, so the small team would have just a five month window to accomplish this feat. Dramatic footage captures their successful journey and provides an intimate perspective of a frozen nation emerging from the collapse of communism.
