Spring may have arrived here at sea level, but it's still winter in the
mountains. That seems obvious to experienced hikers, but every year there
are reports of ill-prepared people venturing out into the mountains. This
year's examples are brought to you courtesy of a pair of recent incidents.
One near Buntzen Lake ended safely after hikers became lost. Another
required a helicopter evacuation due to injuries sustained after sliding
down a steep snow slope near the Lions.
Here at Wanderung, we encourage everyone to improve their backcountry
knowledge and skills so that this doesn't happen to you. Have you witnessed
badly-prepared hikers heading out onto the trails?
