B branch is very brush & definitely 4wd hi clearance as of August.
We just started the B branch but aborted as it was v.slow going & we would not have time to do the hike/drive & make the ferry. I would suggest a 3 day weekend due to logistics.
Emma Lake Hut is BCFS - British Columbia Forest Service Hut
DIRECTIONS: About 20 minutes south of Powell River @ The Lang Bay Store, turn left up Dixon Rd. (right if coming from Saltery Bay). Dixon Road becomes Goat Lake Main. Follow to 32 mile. 'B' Branch heads off on the right, and is marked 'Emma Lake'. This switchbacks for about 7 km. to the parking area.
New “Emma Lake Direct” trail Beautiful terrain and trail! Very steep climb going both up and down. Lots of breaks were needed, not just for water and snacks, but for the breathtaking views of the Eldred valley. Trail was very easy to navigate with the markers and soft spongy ground majority of the way. Lots of exposed roots along the trail can be a bit slippery or can catch your boots and laces. Being very new to hiking this was an absolute grind, but so so rewarding to plunge into Emma Lake at the end!
