North Face founder dies (ZZ from |Wanderung| Newsletter)

Doug Tompkins, the founder of The North Face outdoor gear company, has died in a
kayaking accident in Chile. While he may be known for starting the company, he
spent much of his later life as an outspoken conservationist seeking to protect
wilderness areas from commercial development, particularly in South America. His
work with Patagonia co-founder Yvon Chouinard was featured in the movie "180
South".
