|Wanderung| Newsletter - Hollyburn avalanche
Think that deadly avalanches can't occur on the North Shore? Think again! A
skier was completely buried by an avalanche on the western slopes of
Hollyburn on Saturday. Thankfully they were dug out by their companions
(two of whom were also caught in the slide) and escaped without injury.
Report on the Mountain Information Network:

Like the avalanche on Mt Seymour a couple of weeks ago, it's a reminder
that venturing off the marked trails can quickly lead to terrain with
serious consequences. The North Shore should never be underestimated!
It's not just the local mountains. Across the border, more tragic events
have unfolded as a third person in as many months has gone missing at the
Mt Baker ski resort:

Be sure you know the terrain you're venturing into, explore with a group,
and always let someone know where you're going. |
