在这条路线附近的Mt. Sproatt也是一个好去处(前半段同路),可以找个时间走一走,如果明天大家去过Rainbow Lake后体能还能过剩的话可以一试
Mount Sproatt Ski Ascent (1 Day) . Calculated Length: 8 km
Terrain: Steep tree ski to large alpine ridge
Description: A popular early winter trip with minimal avalanche danger and steep tree ski-ing.
Park at the Whistler Cemetery and follow gated road around the corner into Twenty-One mile creek. At first, you will be on an old logging road. This road turns into a trail at the point you enter the old growth forest. (See Rainbow-Madeley Trail Once on the trail, continue till just before the creek north of Mount Sproatt, and then head up into the Hanging valley north of Mount Sproatt. Shortly after leaving the trail, there is one steep little section in the trees, and then you are onto the moderate slopes of the hanging valley.
A common variation to this route is to leave the trail almost immediately that you get into the old growth, and directly head up the northeastern slopes of the peak, initially following a small creek gully. This is steeper and shorter than the hanging valley route, but is still reasonably safe from avalanches most of the time, as the steepest slopes occur when in the trees. Just the same, watch this one after a long, cold clear spell followed by a heavy dump. Such conditions often create surprisingly large slides in the trees, up to 80cm at the fracture line. (That's why these trees don't have lower branches!!)
