|Wanderung| Overnight callout: Skyline II Trail, Manning Park,4-6 August 2007

INTRO and DESCRIPTION:
This trip evolved from a discussion with fellow Wanderung friends and as such is almost full but we do have a couple of spots left for anyone who can get their gear together in a day or two.
Manning Park has many great trails, Skyline is one of them. This multi-day trip is based around hiking the first half of the Skyline II
trail:

with a side-trip down a little-travelled trail which ends up in the shadow of the great teeth of Hozameen Mountain. The basic description of this trail can also be found in 103 Hikes (#103) and Dawn Hanna's book (#73, Snow Camp Mtn: check out the picture of Hozameen in that book).
Please be aware that Mowich camp has limited camping so be prepared to share a tent if necessary to avoid camping on the meadows. No camp fires are allowed in the back country.
Itinerary:
Saturday 4th: drive to Manning Park, hike Skyline II trail to Mowich camp (12.5 km, 600 m) Sunday 5th: explore Hozameen Ridge trail (estimate 8-10 km, 300-400 m) Monday 6th: return to cars via Lone Goat and Snow Camp mountains (12.5 km, 100 m)
DISTANCE: up to 35 km
ELEVATION GAIN: up to 1100 m
TIME NEEDED: 3 days
BOOK RATING: Moderate
MEETING TIME AND LOCATION: 7:00am, 8th & Pine LATEST RETURN TIME: 10pm, August 6 AFTER HIKE PLANS: Stop for dinner on the way home.

STRICT SIGN-UP DEADLINE: 8pm Thursday 2 August 2007 PLEASE INDICATE: If you are bringing a car, and how many + gear you can fit.

ORGANIZER CONTACT SCHEDULE IF OPTING OUT: 8pm Friday (3 August)
BRING:
- Multi-day backpack
- Sleeping bag, sleeping pad, tent
- Hiking boots (no runners)
- Stove, cooking gear & firestarter
- Water bottle, water purification system
- Headlamp/flashlight
- Bug spray
- Sun protection, hat, sunglasses
- Rain gear, layers, stuff to keep you warm. Absolutely no jeans or other cotton pants.
- Food - 3 lunches, 2 dinners, 2 breakfasts, + food storage bag (there is a metal food cache)
- Toilet paper
- Cash for your driver (if not driving) + parking + camping fee
- Camera + spare batteries and enough memory :-)
- Anything else you normally bring backpacking
The 10 essentials (always bring at least these plus enough warm layers) 1. Flashlight, spare batteries and bulb 2. Firemaking kit – waterproof matches/lighter, firestater/candle 3. Signalling device – whistle or mirror to signal searchers if you become lost 4. Extra food and water – 1 litre/person 5. Extra clothing (rain, wind, water protection and toque) 6. Navigational/ Communication Aids (maps, compass, GPS, charts, cellular phone, satellite phone, hand held radio – fully charged
battery) – know how to use them
7. First Aid kit – know how to use it
8. Emergency shelter – orange tarp or large orange garbage bag. These can also be used as signalling devices 9. Pocket knife.
10. Sun protection (glasses, sunscreen, hat)
