INTRO and DESCRIPTION:
Come join a few others and me on a Saturday day trip to Mount Outram, with dinner at the Wildcat Grill afterwards. Weather - A wet warm front approaches us Saturday, so I am going to take advantage of the warmer 15-degree temperature while I can.

Departing Vancouver area at 8:00AM - we drive past Chilliwack, and then Hope to embark on the historic Engineers trail leading off into the cascades. Departing this old wagon road, we climb steep switchbacks, ease out onto a tundra landscape for a break, and a view of the lake. Then we carefully hike up the long talus / scree slope to summit Outram for an amazing 360 degree view!!

The Outram summit is reached at 2461 metres ( 8074 feet ). 1760 metres ( 5770 feet ) of which we will ascend in ONLY 4-5 HOURS! This hike is comparable to a double grouse grind, but with a noticeable change in flora all the way up. Quite beautiful. Did I mention the amazing views of the cascades at the summit? (weather permitting)

Hikers that participate must be fit enough for a slow grouse grind ascent. All must be prepared for the sudden change of temperature as we approach the summit. Please dress in warm layers and bring a good rain jacket. We ascend rain or shine! Please bring extra dry gear, like a change of socks and tops. I have plenty of room in my 4x4.
Headlamps or flashlights are required in case of delays on the return down. Good footwear is required - of course. Crampons, no - not required at all. There is no snow on this ascent. Walking sticks are a plus! The total distance is only 16-18km, and the trip back down is very quick. 4.5 hours up. 1 Hour at top. And a leisurely 2.5 hour return. Should be down 1 hour before sunset at the latest. Plan on being at Wildcat grill around 6:30PM

>From previous years, I have not seen any remarkable berry patches on
the route up. We will be traveling in a large enough group (> 4) with our eyes out for bear tracks. Fresh bear scat on the trail = a return down to another Manning Park adventure trail - Ghost Pass Trail?
Sumallo Grove picnic? There's lots to do in Manning..
