I've read the tread. Do you think we'll need a rope? I don't have knowledge on roping and am not able to carry extra weight.
We are all not risky pp, if we traverse with caution and and turn back when we find not safe, I think we are ok without a rope.
BTW, will the hut be too crowded if the other party also stays there?

My standard practice for crevassed glaciers in winter is that everyone wears a harness (usually a lightweight webbing harness) and carries prussik loops. We bring 2x30m ropes for rescues. With only 1 rope in your party, the person carrying the rope has no rescue options. If conditions are really bad we will rope up when travelling uphill and on the flats. Skiing down roped up is a real pain. Usually it's better just to keep your speed up and don't fall. Another useful item to have along is a 3m probe to measure snow bridge thickness.
Snowshoes may call for a different approach, because I've heard that you are much more likely to fall into a crevasse with snowshoes than with skis.

The tread is scary. Do you think we at least need one set of rope? Do you have rope? I may carry it if you have.
Thanks. |
