July 18-20 美國 Cascade Pass / Sahale Arm Backpacking

行程:
Friday:  Leave Vancouver at 1:00pm, stop @ Sedro-Woolley for grocery shopping, get backcountry camping permits from Wilderness Information Centre in Marblemount, car camping @ Mineral Campground on Cascade River Road

Saturday: Backpacking to Sahale Arm if we can get a permit.  If not, day hiking to there & car camping at Mineral Campground

Sunday: After breakfast, head back to Vancouver

Driving distance from Vancouver round trip 500km
Trip distance: round trip 20km
Elevation gain: Cascade Pass - 550m / Sahale Arm – 650m
High Point: 5400ft / 6600ft
Hiking Time: at least 7 hrs. per day
Rating: Strenuous
Weather forecast: Sunny

參加者基本要求：

團隊精神 - 共进共退，友爱互助。分工合作，有FUN同享。
個人體能 - 有backpacking经历，近期有七小时以上負重35 lbs hiking经历

责任与备注:

1. 户外活动有风险，一切组织和活动属自愿，责任自负。

2. 一切計劃會跟據當時天氣, 環境作靈活變動, 隊友應跟隨整體行進, 不可單獨行動。

3. 一定要三人一組結伴同行。每組備對講機一部, 否則每組定要保持在視線範圍之內。

1> 2 breakfast, 2 dinner, 2 lunch & snacks 及煮食工具，炉头／气自带.
2> 防水Hiking boots
3> 2.5升水
4> 手套, hat
5> quick dry base layer 和保暖衣服(e.g. fleece/down jacket)
6> 防雨防风外套
7> 睡袋，睡垫, 帳篷
8> 头灯/手电筒
9> backpacking背包及rain cover
10> 防晒霜, 紫外线反射很厉害
11> Gaiters, 防湿鞋湿裤又能防脏
12> 哨子
13> 墨鏡
14> 防蚊水及防蚊紗網
15> 防熊噴劑
16> 涼鞋, 拖鞋
17> 冰鎬 (必備, can be rented from MEC)

一些注意事项：

需要CARPOOL的朋友准备两双鞋（一双是登山鞋），在开始Hiking前和结束后，换上干净的鞋，这样省去车主打扫车内卫生，谢谢！还可以再准备一双备用的袜子。爬完山，能让脚舒服一下也是种享受 .

手套很有用，保暖防寒，要防水／快干的。(如果没有防水／快干手套也可带个二三双羊毛手套湿了替换用)！

防雨防风外套／雨具和保暖衣服！

Important notes:

記著進入美國一定要帶有效的證件, passport或二個Picture ID, 如駕照加上公民卡; 未入籍的朋友請帶楓葉咭。

不能帶肉類(生或熟)、蔬果進入美國境。
否則車主會被罰款及記入黑名單上。

這次backpacking在美國境內3天,美國的醫療費極昂貴。為求保障, 可考慮買旅遊保險, 以防萬一。(If you don't have extended health care paid by your employer) 反正我們也會常去 Mt. Baker 及 North Cascades

You should be aware that your provincial coverage may not pay for all the health care costs you may incur outside the province, and the difference can be substantial. For example, B.C. pays $75 (Cdn) a day for emergency in-patient hospital care, while the average cost in the U.S. often exceeds $1000 (US) a day, and can be as high as $10,000 (US) a day in intensive care. Here's the current trail condition report dated 7/10/08:

The Cascade River Road is now open to Cascade Pass Trailhead. Snow-free until last 0.5 miles approaching the Pass, then large snow patches on final traverse. Rock patio at Cascade Pass melted out but composter toilet at Pass still under snow. Up Sahale Arm from Pass is 50% snow covered with no snow on last 0.5 mile talus slope to Glacier Camp. Route finding required, ice ax recommended on Arm. Glacier Camp compost toilet and two sites melted out. Pelton Basin and Pelton Camp full of snow, ice ax recommended. Composter toilet at Pelton Basin is melted out, but difficult to find. Dropping out of Pelton Basin, trail becomes mostly snow-free. Doubtful Creek is passable as a ford in the morning but can run high in afternoon and become impassable. Trail to Horseshoe Basin snow-free to the basin. Footlog in place over Basin Creek

Snow could have melted more after 8 days. :roll:

Don't be chicken! Just got a few bites at the campground in the evening & early morning. Nothing on the trails as wind blew them away.

Here we go.......One car one person with single person tent. Leaving Richmond in the late afternoon and meet you at the car camp site. Border crossing is not pretty on Friday evening! :wink:

will be @ Sahale Glacier Camp if we can get a permit there. The ranger said that camp with most stunning vistas, but higher. :lol:
