North Shore Rescue member dies on hiking trip
News1130 Staff VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) | Friday, April 24th, 2009 7:30 am VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - A 36-year-old member of North Shore Rescue has died after falling 30 metres into a crevasse while hiking on Mount Gilbert, north of Sechelt. The Rescue Co-ordination Centre says teams rushed to the area after the victim's two companions called 911 around eight, last night. Crews managed to pull the man out but he could not be revived.
Tim Jones with North Shore Rescue says the man, whose name has not yet been released, was a new member of the team. The victim was very experienced and had just begun an 11-day backcountry tour when the accident occurred |
