First crux traverse. This angle piton ( or pin ) has a good reason to be there. Not sure how old it is, but most likely older than when gas prices were below 40¢/L (and we thought it was too expensive!). 8)

狮子山在我心里一直既是个神秘的地方，又是为数不多我可以叫出名字的几座山之一，因为它们的特征实在是太明显了，即便从不爬山的人也能轻易地认出它们来。每次从松鸡山坐缆车下山的途中，总是可以远远地看着它们，感叹一声，“看，狮子山！”曾经听我的朋友说，他去过一次西狮子，可是特别危险，再也不想去第二次了，我听了之后，更觉得狮子山有个性，令人敬畏，却没有想过自己也会有这样一天，可以踏上它的顶峰，和它如此贴近。
感谢博士的信任，愿意带着我这个平时在上课时总是不太“驯服”的学生去实地应用我们在workshop学到的技能。面对西狮子，第一个挑战就是要垂直先下去(其实一半是overhang），右边都是悬崖，我们用了20米的绳子rappel,由于我们带有足够的装备，加上考虑到回来时还要上去，所以下来后没有撤走绳子。在侧过悬崖的时候，我们使用了piton来belay first，然后first安全后再make anchor，belay the second，过第一个traverse，返回的时候另加了piton来redirect；第二个traverse是使用了prussik连接到自己的harness，利用原有的绳子通过的（可是绳子有一头已经磨损比较严重了）。其间，用到了clove hitch 来backup，slide X，etc，当然，不同knots的用法，免不了大大实践了一回。
学过的东西在实际中这么有用还真是少见，这才体会到当老师的用心良苦。严师出高徒，有道理。博士fail了我三次rappel test，一直到我完全掌握，真不容易。在此我要对博士说声对不起和感谢，尽量争取以后做个好学生。

谢谢Dada和Jinsi的鼓励，其实你们都是我的role model，我是个dependent，从来不能独立去一个地方，也不会看GPS，不认识trail，最多只能乖乖地跟随，对我来说，也许这就是team的魅力，各人自有长处，集中起来共享，得到最大的outcome，这是最好的结果。

Getting serious. Another pin, with a sling, on the other end of the first crux traverse. Just keep seeing this kind of stuff (after having dealt with "tricky" rock step) makes one wonder if this route still can be called just "scrambling" that is "without the need for certain types of climbing equipment (body harness, rope, protection hardware, etc)". No wonder, "a person died here in the past.." I was told that person dropped without sound, then getting some airtime before hitting hard down below, so that his partner had no clue his buddy's body was already lying on the snow. It was foggy and he couldn't see him. Sad.
