Brandywine Mountain is a fantastic scramble. The view from the south ridge are spectacular; glaciated peaks and jagged spires stretch as far west as the eye can see. The beautiful Brandywine Meadows make a good campsite for those interested in staying overnight; however, this trip feasible as a day trip from Vancouver for those with less time. This trip has almost no exposure or tricky scrambling and the routefinding is fairly straightforward. The route ascends the south ridge of the peak,which is accessed directly from the north end of the meadows.

By one account, the name of the mountain comes from a wafer between two members of a railway survey party in 1910. A bottle of brandy was bet against a bottle of wine over the height of what is now known as Brandy falls,which was measured with a chain.

一些注意事项：

需要CARPOOL的朋友准备两双鞋（一双是登山鞋），在开始Hiking前和结束后，换上干净的鞋，这样省去车主打扫车内卫生，谢谢！还可以再准备一双备用的袜子。爬完山，能让脚舒服一下也是种享受 .

手套很有用，保暖防寒，要防水／快干的。(如果没有防水／快干手套也可带个二三双羊毛手套湿了替换用)！

防雨防风外套／雨具和保暖衣服！

我们2007是从Brandywine Meadow Spur下来的，映象中路况极差，记得当时大家还讨论过说这路再高底盘的四驱也开不了多远 :(

查了一下Bivouac，好象的确不是一条路，
Brandywine Meadows Spur应该要经过Metal Dome spur/hut，我们走的没经过--可能是Cat Ski Road :oops:

Brandywine Meadows Spur
Condition: HC, moderate waterbars, 4x4 or AWD

History: Once upon a time, tourers enjoyed fine turns on the walls of the cirque, but most weekends one will find the cirque alive with snowmachines launching large hits and generally ripping up the bowl. From Brandywine, good ski descents are possible on the north side. At the end of the current access road (until the crossditch has filled with stranded SUV's) is a hut built by a snowmobile contractor near the top of the last clearcut. Because it illegally occupied Crown land, the owners were required to open it to the public. The hut, unfortunately, is now in rather sad shape at times. It appears that many users have had little interest in keeping it clean and vermin free. 'Tis a shame, as the hut is well-built and has a terrific view of Garibaldi Park across the valley.

Destinations: This is the standard approach that skiers and snowmachiners use to ski Metal Dome and Brandywine Mountain via Brandywine Meadows.

How to Find: From Hwy 99 North (Sea to Sky Highway), turn west onto Brandywine FSR. After 4.5km, turn right onto Brandywine Meadows Spur.

How to Follow: Stay on main, ignoring all spurs. General description follows (zero odometer at Brandywine FSR junction):
+0.1km spur right
+2.0km spur left
+2.1km spur right
+2.7km spur left, turnaround and parking area
+3.7km spur right to snowmobile hut which has parking area and turnaround
+4.9km (est.) end of road

Labelled Waypoints Format Choices: Lat-Longs are WGS84.
50°04' 06.0"-123°09' 42.0"=Jct Brandywine FSR
50°04' 60.0"-123°09' 54.0"=+3.8km Metal Dome spur/hut
50°05' 24.0"-123°10' 54.0"=Brandywine Meadows (ahead)

Road Condition Bulletins:
2009.09.13 Andrea Jung - Best for high clearance: Based on the previous entry, we tried to drive up the Brandywine spur with a Subaru AWD and a RAV-4. At the 1.3 km mark, a steep corner was badly eroded and our clearance was not good enough so we had to park. High clearance 4x4s did pass us. *1
2009.08.09 Ben Lightburn - Logging Appears Finished: The logging mentioned previously appears to be finished, with piles of slash ready to burn. Road in quite good shape. Drove in a low clearance CRV to just below the hut. If not for a very makeshift bridge consisting of rubble, pallets, and plywood just past the hut junction, it would be entirely feasible to drive to the end of the spur/start of the old skid road. *1
2009.07.01 Ernie McEachern - Active logging on spur: We were stopped on Canada Day by active logging on the Brandywine Meadows Spur, about 200 m from the junction with Brandywine FSR. The spur wasn't passable, so we had to go around to the lower trailhead. The logging flag person became highly agitated and informed us there will be active falling for the next month or so. Be warned. *1
2009.06.11 Stewart Douglas - snow free till end: road is in fair shape and snow free till the end. Pallets have been removed from the water bars till the sledneck hut. Trail to the meadows is snow free till the end of the spur road and patches of snow starts once you get in the trees up to the meadows. *1

路况不错，Jinsi MM说一般的四驱/SUV就可以不用高底盘，路也不长(~7km)，跟Conway的那个logging road 不能比 :wink:

Brandywine FSR的路況很好, 有碎石, 但沒有深坑, 普通的SUV一定可以開到Trailhead. 我們那天去有幾輛2WD小車 (Toyota Echo, Honda Civic)也可以開到離Trailhead不遠處 (~0.5km?).

若非週末要上班, 一定跟你們再去一次!
