Mount Windsor
Height: 1689 m
NTS Map: 092.G.11 (13 km SW of Mountain Lake). (4 km SE of Porteau Cove).
Deeks Peak and Deeks Lake
L to R: Deeks, Windsor, Gotha, Hanover
A forested peak located 1.5 km northeast of Deeks Lake. A trail leads from the lake to the Deeks-Windsor col; the peak can be reached via the NW ridge, which is mostly devoid of trees above 1500m, making for an exciting ridge walk/climb in the spring.
Name Notes: Mount Windsor and neighbouring Mount Hanover are named for the two main British royal houses of the last three centuries.
Mount Windsor Trail Strenuous hike, over 1600m elevation gain from the road. Summer: hiking gear; spring: ice axe and crampons recommended for early morning ascent. Take the Howe Sound Crest Trail to Deeks lake. Turn left when you reach the lake and walk along the shore until you see the red sign on one of the trees. Follow the markers until the Deeks-Windsor col, then head up the NW ridge to the summit (approx. 7 km) (5 hours from HW 99 to the summit) |
