Cloudburst看上去很不错,峰顶的view很开阔。LULU能否多找一些数据。

Chance Creek Route to Cloudburst
These are instructions on how to ski up Cloudburst mountain from the Chance Creek side. This route is the most common route in early winter when there is no road access from High Falls Creek.
Turn off highway 99 and drive the Chance Creek road up to the snowcat building at 49:58.2-123:10.0. The road is usually plowed all winter. See a 10 km radius Bivouac Javamap for a diagram of the roads and the snowshed. From the shed, follow the road up the hill to the Roe Creek junction. (about 20 minutes). Keep left at all junctions. The road is good for skiing because the snowcat levels out the road. Eventually you get to a second junction in a clearcut. Head up this a short way, and then across the clearcut to the old growth trees on the south. A GPS reading in the clearcut and approaching the trees is at (49:57.8-123:13.9 and 867m. A short time later, I took a second reading just after entering the forest at 49:57.7-123:13.9.
Once in the beautiful old growth forest, climb upward through the trees. After about an hour you reach an open bowl below some steep slopes. Ascend the steep open slopes keeping to the right to minimize avalanche danger from above. Eventually you will emerge at the top of a steep section at a knotch at 1584m. From here, you are above tree line and can work your way up a system of obvious snow ridges to the summit.

Routes on the north and west sides of Cloudburst
Author: Pierre Signore
Route in red (Northwest Ridge) was recorded by GPS. Blue section was interpolated by hand from “messy” GPS track points (erratic signal). Routes in green (North-northwest Ridge), orange (North-Northeast Ridge) and yellow (Northeast Ridge) were drawn by hand from field notes. Map is with NAD83.
Richard Howard kindly provided some of the GPS data used to map the routes.
Waypoint description
Northwest Ridge
(as of June 09, 2001)
BR100 (GR792307): 2WD can park on the west side of the Squamish River Road at the start of BR100.
Left turn #1 (GR794305): the newer road goes right. You want to go left.
Right turn (GR797308): the main road goes straight (left). You want to go right and uphill. Waterbars start on this branch. They are small but fairly deep: high-clearance and short-chassis vehicle preferred. Park at the intersection if you do not want to bother with the waterbars.
Left turn #2 (GR799305): Again, it is tempting to go the wrong way. You want to go left and uphill through the ugly waterbar. Waterbars will become deeper on the next branch. If you are a conservative 4-wheeler, park here (historical note: my beloved Tercel used to make it to this point in the old days).
Left turn #3 (GR804313): I actually missed this turn with the GPS on my last trip. Grid reference is from the map. I am pretty sure the turn is at this location, based on notes from a previous trip. GPS signal became erratic thereafter (damn!).
Slide (GR805317): Jeep type of vehicle will make it to this point where a slide narrows the road. Bikes and ATV will carry on. GPS signal was recovered.
Left turn #4 (GR809313): road degenerates. Bikes will carry on.
End of Road (GR808318): bushwhack northeast toward the ridge.
Ridge (GR810319): the broad ridge is finally gained. Follow ridge negotiating easy short cliffs as necessary.
Summit (GR803313): Cloudburst.
North-Northwest Ridge
(as of December, 1999)
A ski route approached by High Falls Creek best done when snow covers logging slash at the end of the logging road. Gain the ridge at its foot and ski through the cliff system. The route was once described as a “5.9 ski route” by Pierrot Harvie but it’s really not that bad if some time is spent on route finding.
North-Northeast Ridge
(as of December, 1998?)
Another classic ski route approached from Chance Creek. I have never been higher than the lake on this route so I don’t know where it is best to actually gain the ridge. Again, good snow cover at the end of the logging road makes life easier to ski through the logging slash and to cross the creek as necessary.
Northeast Ridge
(as of December, 1996?)
An unusual ski route that reaches the lower East Summit. The route crosses Chance Creek and starts through a logging slash so a good snow cover avoids an epic (been there, done that).
Note 1: the enticing large couloir coming down the Northwest Bowl towards High Falls Creek is avalanche prone.
Note 2: The West Bowl has reportedly been ascended directly from a high branch of BR100. |
