BC公园局的最新情况-Elfin Lakes to Mamquam Lake:

TRAIL CONDITIONS as of September 3, 2013

CAUTION: Sections of trail washed out due to recent heavy rains. Fast flowing water in Ring Creek before Ring Creek Bridge.

Some pictures from Helen, thank you for sharing!

The power of water (ZZ from |Wanderung| Newsletter)

The power of water-----------------------
by Andy G.

Never underestimate the power of moving water. I have a new appreciation for
that power after a weekend trip to Mamquam Lake. Last Thursday's thunderstorm
dropped vast quantities of rain on the Sea-to-Sky corridor and has created a
couple of obstacles along the trail from Elfin Lakes to Opal Cone and Mamquam
Lake.

First, the washouts. There is a very deep (2 metres!) washed-out gully just
before the descent to Ring Creek that requires very careful negotiation. Beyond
the creek, the new trail along the east bank (river left) is badly washed out in
places, making it difficult to follow. The descent to Zig-Zag Creek (beyond Opal
Cone) also has one fairly deep washout. (The good news is that there is a bridge
over this creek: no wading necessary.) The trail has been badly eroded in
several other places too and looks more like a creek bed than a trail.

Then there is Ring Creek, which has forged a new channel that flows around the
new bridge. Last weekend it was a torrent that was challenging to cross
(especially with an overnight pack). The sunny weather compounded the issue
raising the water level with meltwater from the glaciers, which made the
crossing harder the next day (something to keep in mind!). The water levels
should have begun to drop, but for now assume that you may have to get your feet
wet to cross Ring Creek (just like old times!). If in doubt, turn back.

This got our group thinking about creek crossing in general and a quick search
turned up a few links that may be helpful to check out before you end up in that
situation:

http://www.backpackersreview.com ... p/69-water-crossing
http://sectionhiker.com/safety-t ... rivers-and-streams/
http://hiking.about.com/od/hikin ... o-Cross-A-River.htm

We found that hiking poles and footwear were essential.

Let Wanderung know (at info@wanderung.ca) if you see similar trail damage and/or
creek crossing issues, or if you have any other tips for creek crossings.
