The snow is already falling in the alpine and everyone's thoughts turn to the
winter season. That means winter driving, and the high passes on the Coquihalla
and Crows Nest highways (5 and 3) have already borne witness to what's to come.
The BC Department of Transportation has a web page with all manner of useful
information on preparing for the upcoming winter driving season:

One thing to be aware of is when to carry chains and/or be equipped with winter
tires. This page shows maps of the roads which require chains or winter tires
from Oct 1 (yesterday!), and has info regarding fitting chains to your vehicle:
