The Burton Hut accommodates about 10 people comfortably and up to 15 with a bit of squeezing. There is a lot of sleeping space (attic (6), sleeping platform (5), sleeping bench (2), on the floor underneath the sleeping platform (5) ) but space for cooking, socializing and gear storage / drying is more limited.

http://www.mec.ca/AST/ShopMEC/Hi ... 7-fuel-canister.jsp

Trip Report:

Exped Downmat UL 7 Sleeping Pad

Snow Stake/

All Weather Emergency blanketWeight: 285.0 grams

A plasticized outer layer reinforces this blanket, making it reusable and more abrasion-resistant. The silver metalized inner face reflects body heat back to the user. Corner grommets assist in rigging the blanket as a tarp or as a fire heat-reflector.

- our body is working overtime, trying to keep useless water at body temperature. we must get rid of that water asap, otherwise our body - with its limited, tired, resources - will only be able to keep us warm to a limited extent.

everyone just thought it was normal to share tents, and groups like the VOC and BCMC even had stocks of 4-person tents for trip use by members. Choosing tentmates was just part of organizing trips, and as you can imagine was an important part of the fun and games. Eventually many or most of the bivy sackers realized tents were better unless you were stuck on a cliff somewhere, and switched. But they switched to single tents. What a waste of body heat and socializing. I mean, we go on group trips to socialize, don't we?

MSR Fury

3. hand/toe warmer

Jinsi

Booties(MEC expedition botties are recommended)
http://www.mec.ca/AST/ShopMEC/Fo ... ooties-2-unisex.jsp
Jinsi

got email replies from VOC Ross and  his group of 10 will be camping somewhere. Very kind and considerate of him!

Our numbers are yet to be confirmed but maybe around 10. Ok, we will take that to mean the hut is full and we will plan to camp. This makes our choice of destination a bit more flexible but assuming the avi forecast has dropped to Moderate by Sunday there is a good chance we will see you at the weekend.

No worries, I assumed the hut was full. I just thought I'd check with you on the off chance your plans had changed. We shall look forward to meeting you all this weekend!

Thanks Dr. Pan for sharing your tips! :favor:  :favor:  :aa5:

PanShiBo
.....................

Alpine Tip #17: It is not the outside air temperature that makes you cold, but the lack of proper clothes and skills to stay warm.

At this cold:
17.1 Be very skeptical about your cartridge-based stove such as Jetboil, etc. It may refuse to work.
17.2 Batteries discharge a lot faster, bring more extra.
17.3 Camera probably will freeze as well, unless kept next to the body.
17.4 Overnight, boots will freeze brick-solid and in the morning it will be impossible even to work out laces. Keep boots inside your sleeping bag. Bring 2 plastic bags for that.
17.5 Do not unfold, unzip your down sleeping  bag until you are ready to get inside it to sleep. Otherwise it will acquire outside temp (-25C) and it will take you hours to get warm. This is because the purpose of the bag is to keep the inside temperature, so ironically the better the sleeping bag the longer it will take to get warm.
17.6 Human head is responsible for losing 30% of the body heat, so before putting on another jacket, make sure your head is properly covered.
17.7 Your emergency bivi can improve your sleeping bag rating by extra -3C.

The current trip report:

Garibaldi Lake Daytrip 14/02/25
http://www.clubtread.com/sforum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=60081

the current condition:

I thought the trail conditions were good for snowshoeing. Snow coverage is 100%. Quite a few people seemed to have walked down punching holes as they went.

The parking is in front of the hydro gate.... Rubble Creek is pretty much open right now. I would snowshoe out the trail.
