Family Hike: Hike up Sulphur Mt and Ride Down (June 12)

You are invited to hike Sulphur Mt with your kids on this coming Sunday (June 12). We will hike the official easy trail which swichbacks to the summit ridge of Sulphur Mountain. If possible, we can also continue along the 1 km interpretive boardwalk to the Cosmic Ray Station (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). The most exciting thing is, we will take the gondola down for free (it is free to take the Gondola down this June only). After that, kids can enjoy great ice cream in Cow's Banff just 100 meters north of Mcdonald store in Banff Ave. Unfortunately the cafeteria on Gondola top is closed until Aug 1st due to the renovation.

Elevation gain: 650m
Trail distance: 5.5km one way
Hiking time: around 3 hours
Cost: $19.6+tax for day pass, or $136.4+tax for Parks Canada Annual pass(valid for two years)

Difficulty: This is a well-maintained official trail and is very popular for family without any safety issues. Considering the elevation gain of 650m, it is a bit challenging for a 4-5 years old boy. You have to continually encourage him during the hard time. Lucas first hiked up by himself 1.5 years ago (he is 5 years and 1 month now). He has hiked this trail almost 10 times during the past 2 years. :)

What to wear for kids: Most of the trail is in the woods, so it is pretty cool not that hot. You need to bring sun cream and sunhat for kids. Hiking boots are highly recommended for kids, otherwise a pair of sturdy and comfortable shoes is a must. Long pants instead of shorts are recommended (to avoid getting hurt while falling down by accident). Also please bring extra long sleeve shirts for your kids because it is windy on the top.

Food to bring: lots of water, delicious fruits and snacks for kids. :)

Meeting Time: 12:30pm on Sunday noon (June 12)
Meeting location: Banff upper hot springs parking lots (Google map "Banff upper hot springs"). There are two locations nearby with public washrooms that we can use. One is the Upper Hot springs, and the other one is the Gondola base.

For those who have little kid to carry up, I have one child carrier free to use (good for little one 6 months and up). Please let me know in advance :)
