Notice to Garibaldi Park overnight customers
Hello,
You are receiving this message since you have registered for an overnight camping permit in Garibaldi Provincial Park within the last few years. Beginning at 7 a.m. PST on June 22, 2016; reservations will be required during peak periods, in the busiest campgrounds in Garibaldi Provincial Park through the Discover Camping Reservation Service.
BC Parks is making this change in response to a growing demand for camping opportunities in Garibaldi Park and to manage the unfortunate negative impacts on sensitive ecosystems resulting from overuse. This change will also provide park users with more certainty when planning their trips.
From June 29 - September 30, campsite reservations will be required for the following campgrounds:
* Garibaldi Lake
* Taylor Meadows
* Elfin Lakes
Each tent pad reservation has a non-refundable charge of $6 (plus tax) per night, up to a maximum of $18 (plus tax). Reservation service charges are applied to recover the costs of the reservation system.
During non-peak periods (Oct. 1 to the last week of June) in these campgrounds, overnight visitors must continue to pre-purchase their permits using the Discover Camping reservation service, but no reservation transaction charges will apply.
Reservations will be required year round at Elfin Lake Shelter, and can be booked on a three-month rolling window. Reservation service charges will apply year round.
For other camping opportunities in Garibaldi Park (such as Helm, Cheakamus, Singing Creek, Rampart Ponds and Wedgemount), overnight visitors must continue to pre-purchase their camping permits via the Discover Camping reservation service, but no transaction charges will apply. If changed or cancelled, these fees (transaction and call centre service fees) would apply. These campgrounds are not currently experiencing the same demand as our busiest destinations and will still be offered on a first-come, first-served basis for the 2016 season.
Please note:
* Even if you are camping in a first-come, first-served site in Garibaldi, you purchase your overnight camping permit through the Discover Camping reservation service. Garibaldi will no longer be an option on the Discover Camping registration system. We have made this change to ensure that all permits in Garibaldi are purchased in the same manner, and reservation service changes will only apply to those sites that are truly reservable.
* Self-registration stations will no longer be available at the trailheads, so park visitors who wish to stay overnight must pre-pay for their permits online using the Discover Camping reservation system.
* No permits are required for day-use anywhere in Garibaldi Provincial Park.
