Hi Gloria,
No problem, notes on the route are:
i) Coming from Caltha lake, the trail is fairly obvious up to the Stein Divide above Tundra lake (there is a BC Parks sign here). From the divide looking down at Tundra lake, there is a permanent snow pack immediately in front of you. The route heads left (north) across the snowfield, and does a gradual descending traverse NNE through boulders, heather and scree. Over the space of about 1 km, the route drops all the way to the shore of Tundra lake (or just above it). Don't drop too fast to Tundra lake, as there are some minor bluffs if you descend too quickly.
ii) Once you are close to the lake, the route continues to traverse through large boulders for about 1 km around the lake. This is slow going, as some of the boulders are car-sized.
iii) After about 1 km of following the lake shore, you come to a minor bluff above you (this is visible on the topo map, about 3/4 of the way around the lake). At this point, the lake-shore route steepens considerably. Do not follow the lake shore here, instead ascend a boulder field to your left (north) to gain this bluff, about 400 feet above the lake. The attached photo is taken from the top of this bluff, looking back at the route (along the right-hand side of the lake). From the top of the bluff, it is a minor scramble to descend to a scree slope below. Just past the scree slope, there is an official BC Parks campsite with a bear box and outhouse. From this point, the route again becomes obvious, and traverses to the main campsite at the end of Tundra lake.
iv) Past Tundra lake, the route ascends to your left and gains the high ridge that eventually leads to Puppet lake and Stein lake. Puppet lake is a good place to stop, pushing all the way from Tundra to Stein in one day is a slog, and Puppet is a great campsite.
v) If you have extra time, an interesting variation is to go from Caltha lake to Figure Eight lake, and then loop around Caltha Peak to Tundra lake. This takes an extra day and requires a bit of route finding, but it is beautiful and very remote-feeling. Last year I took this route to Figure Eight lake, then followed the high divide over to Cline, Skook Jim, Klackarpun, then down to Elton Lake and eventually Stein lake, then back along the regular trail; see here:
