Most of us who get out and enjoy the backcountry in southwest BC will have
taken Avalanche Skills Training level 1 (AST-1). That provides a basic
introduction to snow properties and avalanches, plus how to recognize and
avoid avalanche terrain, and how to rescue someone buried by an avalanche.
But like all subjects, there's always more to learn. For snow and
avalanches there is the level 2 training (AST-2), which is almost
exclusively aimed at backcountry skiers rather than snowshoers. We've found
