I am back home, safely.

Arrived at trail-head @7:31am, waited for more than 20 minutes... no one showed up from GG-BCMC group.

First time hike at BCMC. Confirmed with 3 group of hikers that I was waiting at the right place. Finally gave up and decided to follow a couple to finish the trail.

The view on the top is fabulous but very disappointed with my first experience with GG-BCMC group!

We started on time @7:30am at the trailhead , me, my ld, 潘博士,Emily, and John. Sorry that you missed us. Please make sure you are on time or even  better a few minutes earlier if you join us next time. I just pmed my phone number to you in case you join us next time for a better communication which I should have done. My apology!

OK, 1 minute late, guilty as charged!

Forgive me for taking some time to find BCMC trail-head. Although I have been to Grouse Mountain many times, this is the first time I went on this hiking trail.

If this web site is the only way for hiking group to communicate, you could at least update this site and let me know that you guys have left so I don’t need to waste my time to wait.

Thanks for the invitation. The sign for BCMC trail is actually pretty clear. I could either go by myself or go with a hiking group that don’t mind to wait for a few extra minutes…

Cheers

How do we define for a few extra minutes? 2 min, 3 min or 5 min?

being punctual 是一个好习惯 is essential to success in life .  8)

Mind you, it is not only the organizer (a volunteer) who is supposed to wait for you, but the entire group. How long? God knows. No phone call, no text message. Next time do yourself a favor - obtain the leader's phone number and let her know that you will be late. Or better yet, arrive 10 minutes earlier. Otherwise show some class - admit that you were late and apologize, or you will look like what you did - embarrassing yourself on a public forum.

WanchaiBoz: How do we define for a few extra minutes? 2 min, 3 min or 5 min?

Hope: “A few minutes” means “a few” minutes. If you truly want to define it, I would say within 5 minutes. I think it’s a reasonable time window to wait for a group activity.

WanchaiBoz: “being punctual 是一个好习惯 is essential to success in life .”

Hope: Agree, however is 1 or 5 minutes too long to wait? What if someone drove a long way to get there and was just 1 minute late due to a traffic problem? Have you ever thought about how they felt?

PanShiBo: “…Otherwise show some class - admit that you were late and apologize, or you will look like what you did - embarrassing yourself on a public forum….”

Hope: Defend your friend, thumps up! Attack others, thumps down! How classy you are! Next time think twice before you post a comment on a public site.

PanShiBo: “…No phone call, no text message. Next time do yourself a favor - obtain the leader's phone number and let her know that you will be late…”

Hope: Who do I call or text? Lulu did not leave any contact info on the page, and I don’t blame her for that…no one wants to publish their personal info on a public site. All I'm asking is that someone should have updated the site once the group left the gate.

Lulu, I respect you and the things you have done for GG-BCMC hiking group. This was actually the reason I joined Saturday's hiking…I like to meet you in person. You may be a wonderful person, but this time you and your group failed me. Period.

Speechless…

As a leader, it is essential to have great communication skills. Do you think you did a good job last Saturday? First you did not say 7:30am "sharp", second you did not update the site when you have left the gate. As a leader, you need to remember that another person has also signed in for this activity, it is your responsibility to let them know that you have left.

old post in 2008

You dont have to answer my questions or argue with me. But you seem not to have any difficulty of getting rid of your responsibility and liabilities conveniently at this 'difficult time'. Of course everyone has to raise these questions. All my questions directed to you were based on RCMP's report. But some of the posts here did confirm RCMP's report.

I'm here trying to help people learn
.

OK, surfing on your site and found some old posts...exactly 10 years ago, someone lost his life in one of the hiking trip your group organized.

Last Saturday I too experienced similar problem ("broken communication"). Do you think you have learned from that accident?
