Just a couple of weeks ago we were lamenting on the reduced funding for BC Parks in the provincial government budget. But things got a lot worse for parks in Alberta this week when the government there announced massive cuts to the park budget, potentially close 20 parks, as well as plans to let private organizations run over 160 parks:
As many others have pointed out, this is a very short-sighted move from the provincial government that saves a comparatively small amount of money.
While parks may not be direct money-makers, they do attract many tourists (and locals), as well as provide a multitude of health benefits.
