*ORGANIZER:* fretiere@triumf.ca

*INTRO and DESCRIPTION:* Come and join me in backpacking and scrambling in gorgeous Marriott basin. We will leave early Saturday morning, camp at either Rohr lake (shorter hike in than indicated below) or above Wendy Thomson hut. Then we will have 2 days to scramble up to the top of Marriott Mountain and Mount Rohr, hiking the ridge from Marriott basin.
If you are new to scrambling, this is your chance to get into it. These scrambles are not particularly hard or exposed. They only take stamina as the way up can get quite steep (no switch backs!).

*DISTANCE:* 7-8km to campsite
*ELEVATION GAIN:* 400-500m to campsite
*TIME NEEDED:* 3-4 hrs to campsite
*BOOK RATING:* Moderate to campsite. Scrambles may be strenuous.
*MEETING TIME AND LOCATION:* Saturday Aug 4, at 7:00am, location TBD *LATEST RETURN TIME:* Monday Aug 6 afternoon/evening *AFTER HIKE PLANS:* There is a nice restaurant in Pemberton (forgot the
name)
*MAXIMUM NUMBER OF HIKERS:* 10
*STRICT SIGN-UP DEADLINE:* 7pm Thursday.
*PLEASE INDICATE:* If you are bringing a car, if you are willing to bring and share a tent/stove/water filter, if you are interested in sharing food (I love food!)
*ORGANIZER:* fretiere@triumf.ca
*ORGANIZER CONTACT SCHEDULE IF OPTING OUT:* E-mail before 10:00am on Friday
*BRING:* water, lunch, good boots, rain gear, $10 for your driver (if not driving) and backpacking stuff. We are likely to encounter snow, so gaiters will keep your feet dry and poles will help you stay on your feet.

The 10 essentials (always bring at least these plus enough warm layers) 1. Flashlight, spare batteries and bulb 2. Firemaking kit – waterproof matches/lighter, firestater/candle 3. Signalling device – whistle or mirror to signal searchers if you become lost 4. Extra food and water – 1 litre/person 5. Extra clothing (rain, wind, water protection and toque) 6. Navigational/ Communication Aids (maps, compass, GPS, charts, cellular phone, satellite phone, hand held radio – fully charged
battery) – know how to use them
7. First Aid kit – know how to use it
8. Emergency shelter – orange tarp or large orange garbage bag. These can also be used as signalling devices 9. Pocket knife.
10. Sun protection (glasses, sunscreen, hat)

*WANDERUNG PLEASE READ DISCLAIMER:*
*-Organizers are not in any way responsible for you on the hike -Non-members are NOT invited, all attendees must have signed up through the website with a valid e-mail address and be actively receiving Wanderung updates -Do NOT show up to the meeting spot unannounced -Carpool leaves at latest 10 minutes after meet time -Pls do not impose any time ceiling on a hike, if you need to be somewhere after the hike, please be patient, nature knows no schedules and rushing a hike can defeat the purpose*
