Parks Update - Galene, Lindeman, Greendrop, Flora(ZT)

BC Parks, with the assistance of the Student Conservation Association completely brushed out and re-marked the Galene Lakes trail from Chittenden Meadows to Galene Lakes itself. The trail is now well marked and ready for travel. Caution is advised at some of the creek crossings as many do not have bridges. We also brushed/removed windfall on the unofficial "shortcut" trail to the Galene Lakes Trail from Nepopkum Creek day-use. This is a long and strenuous hike with large elevation gain and is recommended as an overnight trip for all but very fit, fast and experienced hikers.

BC Parks with the help of the Conservation Corps just completed some trail work in the Post Creek area of Chilliwack Lake Provincial Park. There are now 5 tent pads at Lindeman Lake and 2 tent pads at Greendrop Lake. The tent pads were constructed to give our visitors flat surfaces to put their tents on as well as to designate specific areas for our visitors to tent so as to minimize our human "footprint" on the area. Hopefully with a little revegetative work in the area around the two campsites over the next few years, the forest floor will start to look a little less barren. We also constructed a new staircase on the east end of Lindeman Lake and last but not least - we brushed out and remarked the Greendrop-Flora trail. Previously, the Greendrop-Flora trail was heavily overgrown and poorly marked. The trail has now been brushed out to a minimum width of 1m wide and many trail markers were installed. BC Parks has also installed a new sign at the trailhead located a few hundred meters away from Greendrop Lake. The Flora-Greendrop trail traverses many large landslides which are somewhat difficult to travel over so expect the hike to take some time. It is now once again possible to safely travel a "circle route" from the trailhead at Post Creek; visiting Lindeman, Greendrop and Flora Lakes. Most parties would take at least two days to complete the route but it can be accomplished as a long day trip by those who are reasonably fit and experienced.
