那一带的山都属于Railroad Group(Ranges: Pacific Cordillera / Coast Mountains / Pacific Ranges / Bridge-Lillooet Divide / Railroad Group)
info quoted from Bivouac:
History: No doubt the name "Semaphore" refers to the signals on the railway which govern train movements. This name continues the railroad theme of the whole area - Railroad Pass, Train Glacier, Locomotive, Tender, Caboose, Sidecar, etc.
The question remains: why they have to do with railroad? Bivouac网站并未能提供也不知道答案。
它关于“Railroad Group”的网页说(蓝色是我加的):“History: No-one knows why Railroad Pass got its name, because it is far too steep and non-strategic to ever be considered as a route for a railway. However all the peaks were at some point given names of railroad cars and equipment.
关于“Sampson”的网页说:“The name "Railroad Pass" may seem a misnomer, since there is no railroad anywhere near Railroad Pass, and there is a drop from 4500 to 1000 feet in about 8 km, but the story goes that a group looking for a potential rail route travelled from the north past Goldbridge and thought they had found a suitable route--until, of course, they discovered the long drop into the Lillooet River Valley.”但这只是传说而已。 |
