Marriott Basin Trail
History: Originally built and marked by the BCMC, the access trail to the Wendy Thompson Hut is now maintained by the Whistler Section of the ACC.
How to Follow: The trail forks just after entering the open meadows, with the left fork (most obvious) climbing steeply to access a contour line above "Marriott Lake." This is the preferred route for environmental reasons; i.e., staying out of bogs and swamps. Crossing Marriott Creek below alpine can be problematical during freshet periods (raging whitewater). In winter, ski access is easiest by continuing up the valley bottom on the right side of the creek as the frozen bogs and swamps make for very easy travel.
Rohr Lake Trail
General Route: Starts about 300m N of Rohr Lake Creek, climbs up along the creek draining Rohr Lake. Then stay north of lake to gain meadows and scree beyond. The trail follows the valley on the map 500m to the north of Rohr Lake, below and parallel to the lake.
Markings: Orange metal markers nailed to trees.
Condition: Generally clear, but muddy on the trail to the right of the headwall (Amphitheatre). It may be better to ascend the rockslide up to Rohr Lake.
Destinations: Mt. Rohr, Rohr Lake, and the Rohr-Hurley Silver Mine Traverse
How to Follow: Follow the Marriott basin trail past the creek down from Rohr Lake and about 500m, then look signpost at the Marriott-Rohr Junction. Head up the Rohr Lake trail. Scramble up the talus to outlet of the lake. Here there are a couple of camping spots.
Mt. Marriott: Standard Approach
First true view of the summit when approaching from south. Approach is fairly obvious, cut to the left after the col, before the gendarme. Continue just below the ridgeline all the way up. The other side of that ridge is 'steep'. |
