Aug 10 to 14,I was camping in Hornby.

Where is it?
Nestle against the east coast of Vancouver Island. The 30sq Km Island has 1,000 year round residents.

How to get there?
From Nanaimo, BC Ferries run across Lambert Channel from Gravelly Bay, on Denman, to Shingle Spit, on Hornby

Where to go?

Fords cove Marina
It is at the end of Central Road, home of government wharf.
Here you can wittness the power of the sea, beaten the soft rock face, leaving dramatic cave formation

Helliwel Provincial Park

This beautiful park is a "must do". A 5K walk circles the park through old growth forest, grassy land and along the spectacular bluff. The best time to visit here is spring and early May, while the wild flowers covering the bluff

Tribune Bay Provincial Park

It is at the south east end of Hornby. The large sheltered bay boasts the warmest ocean water in BC and the finest white sand beach, a safe place for swimming. When the tide is out, you can wade in shallow water and explore the tidal pool

Mt Geoffrey Regional Park

Follow Shingle Split Rd, right on Central Rd.,and right again on Strachan Rd. Trails to the summit, only 1000 ft but stunning view

At the end of Central Rd. is the focal point of Hornby, the large Co-op grocery store, the only gas station of the island and the adjacent Ringside Market, cafe, and art shop

What can we do?

Ocean kayake, but I did not bring camera to kayake

There are three winery and vineyards, but I only visit one, Carbrea vineyard. They operate vineyard tour, tasting and specialty food

When I was yonger and lived in Victoria, I made many trips to and spent quite a bit of time on Hornby Island and still have many friends there. Your report and pictures took me back to all those great times and wonderful memories.
