今天才知道今年北美华人hiking的另一个山难 (Pifu)

真的是非常可惜， 46岁，副教授。

多说一句， 看了一些纪念文章， 好像pifu 本来身体很胖 （2005年）后来喜欢上了hiking, 玩命训练，进步非常快，经常背着大包反复跑，也经常走off trail,非常自信，出事的时候就是在一个很陡的山坡（60度）滑坠的，当时是晚上8点。每次事故虽然都是偶然的，但是也多是几种偶然因素结合在一起。

I am so stunning by reading this news. I used to live in southern CA for yrs and some hiking trails in the attached articles trigger my memory. The pix are from Cucamonga Peak, which is a popular trail. From one of the pix, a large trunk of wood, it splits to three directions.

The mtns in southern CA have less trees than NW Pacific. The trails are better maintained and the off-trails are steeper than here and more dangerous. I do not see any reason for anyone to get off trail.
