感兴趣,早听说过 Yosemite NP 的大名,是backpacking吗?怎样出去,是全部开车还是先飞过去再租车呢?

1. I plan to rent a mini van and drive from here, around 15 hr driving from Seattle.

2. It can be done either way, day hiking or BP. It depends on availability to get permit for BP. The total is 8.4 miles oneway and 1500 m gain. U can do it if I can do it.

3. The end of May is the earliest time to install the cable on the top of Half Dome. The better time to go there is in July. But it is very, very hard get camping site. In fall, water falls would not have much flow any more.
嗯。。 我去,

时间最好早点定下来,要提前请假。
Sorry, really cannot confirm the date. The earliest date to install the cable on the top of Half Dome is the end of May. However, it depends on the snow condition, earlier or later. Middle of June is for certain. I will keep m eyes open for it.

Half Dome Cable

"The typical or target dates for the cables are to have them up for Memorial Weekend and to have them taken down immediately following Columbus Day. So, in theory, the cables go up by Friday of Memorial Weekend and come down on Tuesday after Columbus Day. The dates are approximate and can vary based on conditions and on availability of the trail crew (they have other projects they work on and the timing doesn't always work out perfectly)."

Really, it is a long time since ..... . Where are u now, Bay area? If so, then u should go, as well as Mt, Shasta, only a few hrs to either.

Stayed in Beijing last month for the China New Yr and had "Lamb pot" at the same place as we had more than one yr ago, one of my favorable food.

Injured climber rescued from Yosemite's Half Dome

Injured climber rescued from Yosemite's Half Dome

By TRACIE CONE, Associated Press Writer Tracie Cone, Associated Press Writer Tue Feb 24, 8:57 pm ET

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. – An experienced South Korean mountain climber was caught in an avalanche on Yosemite National Park's iconic Half Dome and was stranded overnight with a broken leg on the granite monolith before he was rescued Tuesday.

Jun Ho Wang, 38, was swept more than 100 yards down a rocky approach to the granite face and into an icy low-lying gully Monday afternoon. A fellow climber stayed with him overnight and on Tuesday morning — about 16 hours later — he was plucked from the northwest face of Half Dome by a helicopter crew and flown to safety.

"Most people in an avalanche don't survive," said Eric Gabriel, an incident commander for the search and rescue team. "This gentleman not only survived a 100-meter slide, but survived through the night in freezing temperatures."

Wang was the only member of his seven-person climbing party caught when the avalanche hit around 4 p.m. Monday, said David Pope, a ranger who was on the search and rescue team that found him early Tuesday morning. He said that at the time, Wang was about 2,000 feet above the valley floor preparing lines to ascend the 8,842-foot granite dome.
