Last photo taken before this camera was accidentally dropped and disappeared from sight. Sharp cracking sound of its plastic body bouncing off rocks below left little hope of recovering. The offered consolation reasoning that someone might find it later and return it to the owner didn't seem to be so effective to lift the spirits. Still we had to keep pushing on as snow started getting sunlight.
Seconding on a glacier requires skills, attention and a lot of patience as the rope always tries to get under crampons. Mind you, one also needs to keep exactly same pace as the lead. Add traversing a slope with an axe under heating sun.
Photo: At the Stonecrop Glacier - getting nice overview of all three Joffre Lakes.
Last steps before the mountain finally "falls" are often the hardest, mentally and physically.
Photo: exiting Stonecrop face just below the summit of Slalok. Visible all three Joffre Lakes with the campground and Mount Rohr over Duffey Lake Rd (Hwy 99).
