How does it feel to complete the very first real alpine route?

Photo: at the summit of Slalok Mountain (2,653m),  or 1 vertical km above the campground that we left in the morning.

Thanks Lulu. You are my teacher, too. I always think everybody is my teacher in this area. I never forget Sean and Wu Fei tested my 1st hike as per Lulu's request on BCMC trail in the winter three years ago and it took me 2.5 hrs to finish. I was so exhausted but luckily I didn't give up. Thanks for everybody's help. Sean helped me get all the right gears to start. I remember Rick, 00, Eric, Hua jia, dada, Ye yin, Shan yu, Kitty, Snowwhite, Tracy, ...... all are vivid in my memories. Also Dr's Chinese impressed everybody. 1st time to Keith's Hut I had hard time to understand him; however, Lulu was showing how Dr organized his backpack which super surprised me. How neat was that! Just impossible to me, but that was a great lesson. Little by little, I am making mistakes and at the same time I am making progress. Thanks all again.

[分享]My first real alpine trip

1.
self-arrest works! I did twice self-arrest on the way back. Of course I felt nervous and scared, but I tried to calm down right away and followed what we have learned at Dr`s workshop. I felt so good when I stopped sliding in the real situation.
2.
Snow picket as an anchor did excellent job! I was the second, connected with the rope. There are a few snow pickets between us to reduce fall factors. I was walking down and slided on the steep slope beside big rocks. Just before I hit the rocks (actually my left leg has already touched them), the anchor stopped me through the rope. At that moment I thought it was possible to get a fracture and I was so released when I turned around and saw the snow picket. ( By the way, it is good I am the second. Otherwise Dr will experience heart attacks all the time  :D )
3.
Suitable gloves are very important. My gloves are big and it is very hard to manage small things which need flexibility. I dropped my camera (everybody can imagine how you feel if you lose your camera at the beginning of the adventure) because I was lazy to remove my gloves first. Tons of thanks to Dr --- I found my camera + memory card + 2 batteries ( they were located in different places on different layers of rocks) on the way back because of his guide. I still cannot believe it happened this dramatic way with such wonderful ending! I tested my camera after it had so many falls on the snow and rocks. Wow, it is still functioning just as usual!

好几年前我去那里的时候,还看见那个冰川的边缘崩塌了一块下来。怕怕~~

Thanks Windy. I still remember your smile when we hiked together. Long time no see. Hope we can meet someday again.  :)

我们这些菜鸟很难指望再和VERA一起爬山了。  因为她要跟着博士爬到月亮上去了,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Unfinished business - some acrobatics looking for the camera accidentally dropped in the morning. Snow getting warm and huge chunks of ice hanging directly above don't really invite for a long stay here.

Hard to believe, but the camera was found sitting on this ledge! Yet the joy was short lived - its poor plastic body was missing batteries and memory card.

Sometimes you just need a very little more to hold on before giving up, luck will be waiting for you.  After looking a bit higher up on the rock we found scattered memory and even the batteries.  8)

Downclimbing on warm soft snow can be a bit nervous 8)

Walking on a solid ground like this is "more stable" I was told. 8)
