Two of us crossed the land twice: from South (photo left) to North (photo right), dropping from the South Rim to the river level (1.5 km vertical that is), climbing to the North Rim and then coming back again. We emerged from below the rim after five days on Feb-19 2015, exactly Chinese New Year. 8)
Phantom Ranch sits at the bottom of the Canyon, next to Bright Angel c/g and Colorado River. People consider to be very lucky to succeed reserving one (and not more) night, and no sooner than one year in advance. 8)

Understandably, this time of year North Rim of Grand Canyon sees very few visitors - the access highway is closed till May 15, so the most "practical" way to get there is to hike across the Canyon from South Rim and back.

We used South Kaibab Trail to return. Here sign "NO WATER" means "NO WATER" - all the way from the river. 8)
