Alpine rappel - even small mistakes will be expensive.

Mt Whitney

We didn't bring snowshoes and didn't miss them, but we got to use all the climbing gear that we have brought.

As per our usual climbing style, at the end of the trip we were not even close to be exhausted. We never pushed hard and all sketchy (=exposed) spots were well protected. The trip was pure fun; we enjoyed every single step, and that's how it was supposed to be. 8)

How would you feel if only a year ago you were the slowest among many others, so that your best Grouse Grind time was two (!) hours and you accepted that fact as reality? That you were afraid to join other trips because of that, people used to make fun of you and you thought you deserved it? How would it feel now, to be standing at altitude 3,850 m with 45lb pack and about to climb your 10th alpine summit? I am not sure, but I suppose you would feel being alive. 8)

Downclimbing Ebersbacher Ledges

..one short section of the Ledges narrows to perhaps only 12 inches or so. Unfortunately, this part also happens to be the most exposed..

Although we never had bad altitude effects during entire trip, upon descending to our first camp we noticed the air was getting richer. Yet it might have been only our imagination, the victory always smells sweet, no? 8)
