Long Range traverse (July 8-15)

这条路线最挑战的是Navigation，希望每位队友都做足功课，路线熟记在心，带上指南针（每人会有地图），有手持户外GPS的也带上(plus extra battery)，事先存上GPS数据

Good skills with map, compass, and GPS are required here, as no marked or maintained trails penetrate this unique wilderness.

Insider Tip: The impenetrable alpine krummholz vegetation (called tuckamore on Newfoundland) in Gros Morne is so dense it seriously complicates navigation. One useful technique is to follow “caribou leads,” trails carved through the tuck over centuries by moose and caribou. Then take a GPS waypoint and adjust your vector as required when you pop out the other side.

Come with solid map-and-compass skills, because there isn't a single trail marker along this 20+mile route, which is packed with side trips and navigational puzzles. The meandering footpaths of caribou draw you away from the proper course. Fog cloaks the highlands in June and July. You'll also have to pick your way around the countless peat bogs and brooks that dot the plateau.

你问了taxi后（顺便问一下早晨返回机场的taxi)，我来定motel.

如果确定了motel, 可以推迟取车时间，10：00am?

原本打算将mini Van泊车在James Callaghan Trail Head，但不知这个TR是否允许停3天。如果不能泊车，估计就要停在visitor center, 走出来后，还要背包再走3公里取车。

行程细节，都在一楼更新。

刚打过电话，Ranger说将mini Van泊车在James Callaghan Trail Head((Gros Morne Mountain Trail head)多天没有问题，她也推荐停车在那里---说虽然风险自付，但还从来没有安全问题发生; 也可以停在visitor center，在orientation的过程中打电话安排回程的shuttle/taxi...

刚问了Star Taxi，他们的车只要有飞机降落，就会有车在机场等候。

这样的话，就电话预订了一个房间，two queens plus one cot, rate: $139 plus tax from 8 July to 9 July, confirmation# 048449.

Read those two trip reports a couple times tonight and really enjoyed, will plot their route overlaying our gps data for double checking tomorrow. :D

From what i read, The ranger will give us a map & compass test during the orientation

Poker MM看看GMNP的确认信?----今天给ranger打电话，ranger说我们的permit上有我们group定pad的数量，还说每个PAD(10X10)并不限制帐蓬数，e.g.只要能放下放两顶帐蓬没问题。

另外告之，炉子的气罐在Rocky Harbor的Home Hardware有卖，可能Deer Lake的Home Hardware也有卖? 我会打电话问

信很简单，见copy，没有pad的数量. 我下周再给公园去电话确认一下。

Ranger是执行者，说可以放两个那就是可以，两位男士可以带两个单人帐篷了.

昨晚睡前看了这篇，没想到岛上的MOOSE这样厉害。。。
和low mainland这里似乎不是一个种群，这里的moose, 胆小，稍有风吹草动就跑掉。
