Long Range traverse (July 8-15)

MM真仔细！好象要通过地图指南针的使用技能的考试才能拿到permit的，整个pre-trip information session二个小时左右，今天电话里向ranger表示如果我们group每个人都用英语应试可能会有些问题，并说明我们有GPS/Compass/Mpa+navigation skill而且会一起共进共退，ranger表示我们五人只要一个人考试通过就可以了.

要不要请麦芒MM代表大家通过考试？ :P :P

ld说他过去在野外工作时，看到的MOOSE都很温和，not aggressive, 另外防雨防风防蚊虫的准备也要做好。我自己会带防雨衣裤，防蚊虫的衣服，防蚊喷剂，还多带几根营钉和绳子固定帐蓬，建议搭帐蓬时如果风大，两人合作搭....

把他们实际走的路线（白色）和我们计划的路线（彩色）放在一起，可以看见大部分是重合的，只有两处他们明显绕路了

.....This is our first day on the Long Range Traverse in Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland, a “wilderness backpacking experience” that the Parks Canada website says is for hikers with “good navigational skills with a map and compass.” Yesterday, we attended a briefing and had to demonstrate these skills in a written test at the visitor center to gain a backcountry permit. Having only become acquainted with the basics three weeks ago, the test took us all morning and had us sweating (Question 11: “Before adjusting for declination, take a bearing off the map from the end of Western Brook Pond to the top of the gorge. What bearing will you travel on?”).....

Question 11 is easy, can anyone tell me the answer? :lol:

Long Range Traverse的bug很多很多，建议每位队友除了穿宽松长衣长裤，一定带上防蚊喷剂和Bug jacket（Walwart就有卖，十元左右，MEC也有卖）

Answer for Q11: the bearing to be traveled on is the bearing taken from the map minus 21度30分.
也就是地图上测的角度（from the end of Western Brook Pond to the top of the gorge）减去磁偏角21度30分，即为行进方向的度数。

不敢当，共同研习, 问题11是问在declination未调节之前，没有涉及指南针的declination只是地图的reading，问True North和两点一线的角度(顺时针)

如果考虑declination，应该加上20°

我们指南针行前调节好declination，就可以直接读用了 :lol:

又仔细看了推荐的路线等高图，没有穿溪/水塘，都是绕过。
莫不成以前的游记，记录的是short cut?

看完了这几篇相关游记，个人小结：
1. 食品要按5天准备。LRT总长度35KM，不off trail太多的话，3-4天可以完成，如果off trail太多，再加上可能的大雾，5天也可能。

2. 荒原上的主要障碍：缺乏Landmark定位和多变的雨雾气候；苔原湿地行走；tuckamore；成群的bugs。

看来要带。
第一段河谷到瀑布底部，就可能要穿过水。

As you travel up the gorge, you should stay close to the brook. You will see sections of trail, which sometimes tend to disappear. This is not a maintained trail, it occurs due to the passage of people and animals, and not everyone chooses the same path. Depending on the water level, you will cross the brook several times. Watch for where the “trail” starts after crossing; there is no need to go very far from the brook.

另外，推荐的路线等高图里，刚过Mark Pond营地，就必须穿过溪流。

从Green Island Pond北面营地刚出发(往Ferry Gulch)，就需要穿过溪流.

This site is located on the east side of a small pond north of Green Island Pond, 6 km WSW of campsite four. You will come down a steep hill into a small valley by the brook from Green Island Pond. There are tent platforms and a “bear box.” The next day you cross the brook on the way to Ferry Gulch.

另外报告不是领导一声：昨天到Garibaldi公园逛，目标Panorama Ridge. 手持MotionXGPS，对着下载的track一路追寻，结果在Black Tusk湖边往返，就是找不到上去的路 :sx:

灰溜溜滴和Millie跑到Garibaldi Lake边上晒太阳去了。

今天，再对照trail, 才知应该从Black Tusk湖北边过去上ridge.

去程一路上off trail不少。阴差阳错，反而看到trail上看不到的好景致:D

Anyway, 对自己跟踪track的本领大受怀疑 :cry:
跟踪LTR的trail, 拜托各位了。。。 :oops:
