Jan 26, Whitewater Preserve, CA
Hiked Pacific Crest Trail from PCT marker 97.31 north to PCT 98.75. Very beautiful area! Attained Red Dome, Forks Benchmark, Peak 3678.

Our road track so far, 2,483 km.

From here can walk to Canada over PCT trail: 2,445 miles, all class 1!

San Jacinto Peak (3,305m), California

This footage was shot shortly before the fall. We already summited and put on headlamps. All snow pickets will be used for rappel, these will retrieve in summer of 2019.

Today we reached Pacific Crest Trail Southern Terminus at U.S. / Mexico border!
2,725 km on the road (red line). PCT - green line.

We arrived exactly at sunset.

The very first PCT trail sign. From here one can walk never-interrupted class1 trail to Canada (4,270 km!)

世界之最

我们在Palm Springs的Rest Area，就可以清晰地看到壮观的San Jacinto，它是PCT沿线的名山之一，海拔3302米，南加州的第二峰，自然而然地就上了博士的To do list。

怎么去？什么路线？出行前马不停蹄地上班，忙得我对这次旅行的细节几乎一无所知，只听得博士说的数字就感觉到体力上是个挑战：长距离，拔高也厉害（被称之为from desert to alpine)，估计头灯是免不了，我们也就朝这个方向准备了。

可事实又如何呢？真是冥冥之中自有天助，就在前一天，我用了博士的data上网搜了一下，看到一行字说如果你想summit这座山、又不想太多的effort，有办法！我一看就眼睛亮了，有这等好事？赶快继续看：Palm Springs Aerial Tramway! 再看：来回17公里，拔高约800米！哇塞，天上掉馅饼啦！在alltrails的网站上，还竟有昨天25号的report：最新路况，小冰爪+登山杖，无需雪鞋。赶快问博士行不行，他听了也开心，我们便开始查缆车状况：非周末10点第一班上，最后一班是晚上8:45下。这样一算，坐缆车下山应该来得及，再看价格来回US$26.95，比比Grouse，再比比Sea to Summit，那可是便宜多啦，心理上完全可以接受！好的，我们意见统一，就这么定啦！

缆车10点第一班，网上说9:30才开始售票，我们开车大概20分钟就到缆车站了，所以早晨一点也不急，喝咖啡、吃早饭都慢慢来，还是8:30就开进了它的停车场，$8一天，到指定的区域，非常有秩序。我们早，所以离站很近，一看，周围都是山，后来才知道我们是在Chino Canyon里。我们不急不忙地开始打包，只带了水、食物、小冰爪，我想了想，15m的emergency绳子还是塞进了包里（谁想到真的用上了它！），其他的就是常规的。9:30前，我们上了台阶，进站，打算买第一班的票。

里面的景象也令人舒心，让你不由得联想到机场登机的情形，左边是像银行服务那样的几个售票口，旁边有很多座位可以坐着等候，右前方写着Boarding……一切都非常有序。我们顺利地买到了票，按部就班地进了缆车：一点也不挤，80人的maximum，他们只安排了50人。缆车是圆形的，很干净，没有座位，大家都顺势围成环形而立。我们像往常一样把背包放下来，登山杖靠着缆车，启动了，登山杖倒下来。我扶起它们，咦，一会儿怎么又倒了，正在纳闷，博士发言了：这是旋转缆车！它在moving！哦哦哦，原来是这样！

事后的功课：Palm Springs的这个，是世界上最大的空中旋转缆车，世界之最哦！（其他两个在南非和瑞士）它起点是806m，终点海拔2596m，上升1790m（是松鸡山Gondola的两倍啊，可见价其性价比），在12分钟里完整地旋转两次，这样所有的乘客不用移动就可以饱览360度风景（这么贴心的考虑）。建在canyon里，两侧是深谷峭壁，背后是一望无际的Sonoran沙漠，我们徐徐而上，它就一直带着你进入alpine forest。这简直酷毙了，我太开心了！

一点也没想到在无意中竟有这缘分体验一次这世界之最，不仅让我们能够神清气爽地起步，而且还成就了我们可以一日双峰。从TH到summit，约8km，小冰爪竟能一路到顶，这也开了我的眼界。旋转着在音乐声中下山，有乘客竟情不自禁地和着音乐起舞，多么圆满的一天，又会成为我多么珍藏的回忆！谢谢博士！

We tried and failed to count how many times we alreday have been to Grand Canyon, at least seven. Memorable trips are Rim-To-Rim, Cheops Pyramid and South Kaibab trail at +43°C heat.
