Glacier NP (1)

2017.8.22 The Many Glacier Area in Glacier NP

左拐,一看是个小小的房子,写着Ranger Station(今天才知,今年仅在05/28-09/16 0700-1630开放),里面的工作人员在我看来都是退休年纪的人,我以为他们老了来做义工的。

Many Glacier area was not in our plan:  we came here by being pushed out from other areas for various reasons (forest fire smoke, bad weather, and bears). No regrets! 8)

[分享] Glacier NP (2)Henkel (上)

2017.8.22 Henkel (上)

Mount Henkel (2673m)

TH:同 Iceberg/ Ptarmigan TH (离Many Glacier 入口8.3km)
(For Bear management)
Ascend:South Ridge Route
Descend: South Couloir Route
级别:Class 3-4

Annual arctic cold spell in BC is always good to test certain things out. How to know that your electronics like radios, GPS, SPOT do function below -20°C? Placing them in the home's freezer for the night and see if they still work in the morning is not enough (it is only -12°C in mine).

Trivia question: it is -20°C. What do you think is better to bring: two thin down parkas or only one

2017.12.03 Alpine Practice - Climbing Steep Snow at Mount Seymour Provincial Park

The conditions were excellent for such kind of training: good for practice and bad for actual climbing. On top of that, someone forgot the entire(!) set of gloves, and yet another one forgot to bring an ice axe. Supporting the motto "a training which is not as twice as hard as the real climb is not a training", apparently we succeed. 8)
